The slot floor is the beating heart of a casino. But with so many slot machine manufacturers, each with their own approach to design and engineering, how can casino operators pick which cabinets to offer their players? To help operators make their choice, we’ve reviewed the industry’s leading manufacturers and picked some of their best cabinets.
A successful land-based casino operator has to ensure that their establishment provides variety, comfort and entertainment to their clients. There are many factors to consider: card tables, roulette, and trained staff are all important, but the most critical is the slot machine area. That’s what draws people in, gives them a chance to relax and have fun — and generates the most profit. But the choice of which cabinets to put on your casino floor is not an easy one. The market is saturated with options, so to help you navigate it, we picked and reviewed a few key vendors and their products.
Founded in 1993 in Austria, Amatic has grown to become quite a prominent player in the European market. The company’s offering is simple yet effective, providing operators exactly what they need for an inviting slot floor.
Amatic’s Satellite Slant Top compact single-monitor machines come in handy if you need to save space, and the Amarox and X4000 tall cabinets that feature two screens with a small gap in between make a good addition to any casino floor. Finally, there’s the Performer Grand Arc —a three-monitor system which gives the same impression as more expensive curved-display cabinets. Amatic’s slot machines may not feature huge screens, but they are still visually striking — the design is sleek and attractive, both up close and from a distance.
The company clearly places a lot of emphasis on creating machines that are very convenient for operators. Amatic’s cabinets have comfortable maintenance doors and modular components like TITO, bill validators, hoppers, and more, and they are compatible with most casino management systems.
Some of the cabinets also come with multiplayer features, so there is definitely added value in having several of their machines.
Verdict: Solid and affordable. Probably not going to blow anyone away, but will certainly give your players a great experience.
One of the biggest names in the business, Aristocrat, has been on the global market since the early 60s. But despite being one of the industry’s oldest providers, Aristocrat always seems to be on the lookout for current trends and new innovations.
The first thing that comes to mind when you see Aristocrat cabinets is that they are impressive.
The Helix+, for instance, comes with 27” 1080p infinity-edged frameless displays and rear surface lighting. The Arc series of cabinets comes with top-of-the-industry curved monitors, and MARSX sports a Dual 4K UHD screen. They also have the biggest cabinet out there — appropriately named Behemoth, with a massive 84” monitor and robust graphic capabilities.
Probably one of the biggest arguments in favor of Aristocrat’s slots is that they truly stand out. Players know and like their games (it helps that a few of them are based on popular franchises like Game of Thrones and Big Bang Theory), and even the shapes of the cabinets themselves are quite different from what you usually see. Flame 55 has a flowing, fire-like shape, and Arc Double is designed as an “anti-box” to break the monotony of the casino floor.
Across the board, Aristocrat’s products are very well made, hi-tech, and come with luxury, quality-of-life features like wireless charger capability and benches for group play.
Verdict: Definitely one of the best choices. Reliable, beautiful, packed with innovative features.
These cabinets attract players’ attention and hold on to it.
CT Gaming, a Bulgarian company which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, has a lot of products to choose from. From a technical standpoint, they have plenty of features to dazzle players, including HD screens, vibrant lighting effects, and ergonomic design.
CT Gaming’sslot machines, like Aurora and the EZ Modulo series, have an attractive design and different optional accessories and buttons. The reworked GEMINI PLUS is also great if you want to bring something with a classic feel to your floor.
Normally, if you are looking for something unique, it’s going to be expensive. Not in this case. CT Gaming has experimented a lot with their layout and produced a few instantly recognizable yet reasonably priced slot machines.
EZ Modulo TITAN, for example, has an impressive dual setup combining two displays: 32” UHD main and J-Curved on top. But the most eye-catching cabinet is ARCH — a first-of-its-kind slot machine with a horizontal curve display and an interactive command deck. ARCH is very distinct without being more technically complex than other cabinets.
Verdict: Good variety and good value. A solid choice if you want your floor to stand out without straining your budget.
Euro Games Technology
Also from Bulgaria, EGT is one of the top names in the industry. You can see their cabinets in casinos around the world, and the brand is well-known among players. EGT has a staggering array of options. The choices range from the modest AWP series cabinets to the stunning Super Premier with its huge, 75” curved monitor. The General range is excellent if you are looking for modern and fast but at the same time reasonably priced slot machines. They are all powered by the company's own Exciter platform.
EGT’s machines are very space-efficient. Access to the systems is secure and convenient, and the cabinets themselves have an ergonomic design. Many models feature optional multimedia chairs, so you can use them for the VIP area if you have space to spare.
Verdict:Has everything from cheaper slot machines with several displays to curved and frameless touchscreen monitors—a good brand for any budget.
A London-based company with Italian roots, IGT is one of the key players on the market. Known for their design and engineering, the company’s cabinets range from the classy, almost antique-looking S3000 to the cutting-edge AXXIS TRU 3D, featuring patented autostereoscopic technology which tracks players’ eye-movements and creates a 3D experience without the need for special glasses. Stepper from the CrystalDual series is probably one of the most distinctive-looking machines out there, instantly visible on any casino floor.
Cobalt is an affordable option, durable and easily serviceable with intelligent lighting and two 27” full HD displays; however, they are also state-of-the-art cabinets like CrystalCurve, with its 43” inch 4K screen.
No matter the requirements, you can find something to suit your players’ tastes. IGT’s design philosophy seems to be “familiar but enhanced.” They produce cabinets that give players exactly what they are looking for, along with some added convenience and quality. Many of their machines combine mechanical reels and physical handles with monitors and advanced lighting systems.
Verdict: IGT’s machines are easy to install and service (the ones with EZ-Mount system especially so), they look good, and their games are well known by players. They are also best if you are going for retro aesthetics.
Another name highly regarded by casino operators and players alike is Novomatic. This Austrian manufacturer has cemented a leading place in the market, and for good reason - their slot machines are very reliable and technologically advanced.
Novomatic recreates the classic slot experience with cabinets like Funmaster and Dominator, and their newer machines like the Panthera series are imposing but elegant. Panthera Curve has a beautiful 43” 4K UHD curved screen with LED backlight and PCAP touch capability, giving it a very high-end look and feel. Novomatic’s machine for VIP zones, V.I.P. Lounge™ Curve 1.43, creates an atmosphere of luxury with its very comfortable, high-quality chair, crisp sound, and 43” display.
And it’s not just the looks. The hardware underneath is superb. Novomatic uses Motorola Coldfire processors in their machines and produces all their components in-house.
Due to their products’ long lifespans, all of Novomatic’s software is backward compatible, and they support older models longer than some other manufacturers.
Verdict: Tried, true, and sophisticated. Novomatic is your choice if you want something that your players might remember from their visits to Las Vegas or Macau.
There are many great slot machines on the market. At the end of the day, the best choice for you depends on your operational requirements. Who are your players, and what are their preferences? Where are you located? These are the first of many questions to ask before you can pick the cabinets that will give you the best results and ROI.
