According to the French gambling regulator, ARJEL, online sports betting turnover grew by 9% and reached €636 million in the 2nd quarter of 2017, putting a new quarter record in the local market.
The revenue from online betting on sports amouted to €111 million - 22 per cent growth compared to the same period last year. The turnover from bets on horse-racing rose by 9% and reached €239 million for the first time in four years. The income from this segment grew by 5% and amounted to €58 million. The revenue from online poker grew by 5% to €58.6 million.
In the second quarter, a number of women among bettors also increased by 5% (up to 80,000) while male share decreased by 4% (up to 808 thousand).
According to data from the 1st quarter of 2017, the number of online betting on sports increased by 23% (up to $708 million) as opposed to the same period last year.
It was previously reported that Russia's regulated market could triple its turnover within five years due to new entrants and major sporting events in the country.
The current annual revenue from sports betting is about $11.75 billion, of which approximately 60% relates to licensed operators. The annual income from betting is estimated at $816 million and covers 144 million people.
